Celtic art, particularly as it is found in the majestic illuminated manuscripts of the early Medieval period, has been one of the most enduringly captivating and versatile art forms in history. This course will introduce the fundamentals of how to craft various Celtic motifs, from knotwork and animal patterns to intricate spirals and calligraphy, inviting students to create their own compositions as stand-alone pieces or go all the way up to fully illuminated books of their own!

Based on the style of illuminated art found in manuscripts like the Book of Kells and Lindisfarne Gospels, this course includes the digital files of my own modern composition - the Tamburn Gospels. This is a complete illuminated Gospel text in Latin and English I completed and hand painted in 2022 utilizing the techniques demonstrated in these tutorials. Even if you just want to try your hand at painting and binding your own medieval illuminated Gospel book, this course has everything you need to do so!

The simple tutorial methods I show you in the course will allow you to re-create the practice examples or create new unique designs of your own that you can use in all kids of projects.
